The Lighthouse Project

Part of the Digital Fortification Quality Traceability Plus (DFQT+) initiative, this project connects iCheck Modular data via the iCheck Connect app to a cloud-based platform. It demonstrates how digital systems can enhance compliance, accountability, and real-time monitoring across the FF value chain.

What is DFQT+?

The DFQT+ system is a country-owned, user-friendly, and digital platform that enables mills and government authorities to generate, govern, and share traceable data on food fortification quality, from production facilities to markets. Key benefits of DFQT+ include:

  • For Food Producers: Improved product quality, reduced waste, better inventory management, and enhanced profitability through high-quality, trusted products.
  • For Governments: Strengthened oversight, data-driven decision-making, and assurance to consumers regarding compliance and product safety.

The Lighthouse Project, a collaborative initiative led by Global Alliance for improved Nutrition (GAIN), integrates iCheck Connect with the Digital Fortification Quality and Traceability Plus (DFQT+) system, platform. The project aims to automate real-time fortification data transfer, like Vitamin A levels in oils, eliminate manual errors, enhance traceability, and support food producers and monitoring authorities in Nigeria, Bangladesh, and India, setting a global standard.

iCheck Connect 2.0: Revolutionizing Data Collection

At the heart of the Lighthouse Project is iCheck Connect 2.0, an advanced digital tool that works with the iCheck Modular device to streamline the collection, recording, and visualization of micronutrient testing data. By integrating with the DFQT+ platform, iCheck Connect enables seamless recording of analysis events and supports the creation of a transparent and traceable fortification monitoring ecosystem.

Key Features of the Lighthouse Project:

  • Data Integration: Automates the capture of fortification quality data, reducing manual errors and enabling real-time sharing with a centralized DFQT+ hub.
  • Local Partnerships: Piloted with government and industry champions in Nigeria, Bangladesh, and India, ensuring local relevance and co-creation with stakeholders.
  • Business Value: Provides actionable downstream data to micronutrient producers, incentivizing their participation and supporting better supply chain management.
  • Scalability: Designed to support new parameters and expand across various food products, ensuring adaptability for future needs in fortification programs.

Purpose and Vision

The Lighthouse Project exemplifies the future of food fortification monitoring, creating a scalable, efficient, and transparent system to enhance fortification quality and compliance.

By leveraging iCheck Connect 2.0, the project demonstrates how digital solutions can bridge gaps in quality assurance, improve consumer trust, and drive measurable public health impact.
